He is a regular email sender and recently he sent me a very important reminder for women, or for that matter, for everyone.

In this time and age, mugging, theft, hold-ups have become commonplace. Gabi man o tanghaling tapat, wala ng pinipiling oras, especially during these “fund-raising” days.

Cyrus, a kababayan and a Facebook friend, sent me these timely reminders.

If a robber asks for your wallet or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM (or her). Instead, TOSS IT AWAY FROM YOU. Chances are the robber is more interested in your wallet or purse than you.

He will go for it, instead of you. RUN LIKE HELL IN THE OTHER DIRECTION. Problema lang kung hold-up sa bus o sa jeep.

If you ever get kidnapped and thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the tail lights, stick your arm out the hole and wave like crazy. This will surely attract attention and may save you. Kasi di makikita ng mga nasa loob ng sasakyan and ginagawa mo. 

After work, or after shopping, once you get into your car, don’t do anything else. Close your car immediately and leave. If someone is in your car with a gun, DO NOT DRIVE OFF. It’s better to step on the accelerator and speed into anything. You will wreck your car but the air bag may save you, but not the person at the back. Sabi pa: Get out of the car immediately. It is better to have a wrecked car, than having someone find your body dumped somewhere in a remote place.

When getting into your car in a parking lot, look around first, look inside your car, even at the back seat. If you see a man sitting alone in the vehicle beside your car, get back to the mall or in the office. Ask a guard or a security person to accompany you to your car. IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. 

May paalala pa: At night when you hear the sound of a crying baby outside your house, DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR OR GO OUT OF THE HOUSE.

It has been reported that robbers have used recorded sounds of a crying baby to get people, especially women, to open their doors and get out of their homes. In the US, a serial killer has used the trick to lure his victims!

Dapat ingat lang talaga sa mga panahong ito!
